design (3)“Desperate times call for desperate measures”. This is a phrase that I’ve heard and even said from time to time when things have gotten rough in my life. What does it mean to be in desperate times anyways? Being curious of this, I decided to look up the word desperate, and here is what I found. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary it means to “hav[e] lost hope, suffering extreme need or anxiety, and/or involving or employing extreme measures in an attempt to escape defeat or frustration”. After reading all of this, the simple phrase began to carry a heavier weight. As human beings, when we get desperate, we are willing do whatever it takes to get out of that place of suffering and need. Some of us will party, get drunk, cry, lie, steal, cheat, gamble, and anything else that comes to their mind to make it go away, even if it’s for a moment. Sometimes we’ll even get on the phone and complain about it to whoever is willing to listen and feed our ego. But how many of us are willing to go after God, unrelenting until we’ve gotten His attention? Starting next week, join me as I dig into the Word of God and look at different people who sought Christ in a desperate way because of their desperate situations. As we take this adventure, my hope is that we will learn what it really means to seek Christ desperately in desperate times, and be made whole. I hope you will join me on this journey!
